Senior Recital

Ukulele – Developed in Hawaii from Portuguese instruments, with four strings and a light tone. Central to Hawaiian music and widely used in global folk revival styles. Its compact size and simplicity make it accessible for communal music-making.

Uke Bass – A modern compact bass with rubber strings, used in acoustic and folk ensembles. Despite its size, it produces a surprisingly deep tone.

Steel Guitar – Developed in Hawaii, played horizontally with a slide, producing smooth pitch bends in Hawaiian and country folk. It creates a distinctive gliding sound.

Drums (Hawaiian Music) – Traditional Hawaiian drumming centers around instruments like the pahu (sacred temple drum) and ipu (gourd percussion), used for hula and ceremonial chant. These drums provide steady, grounded rhythms that support storytelling and dance rather than complex polyrhythms.
